Joy Zheng

With a BFA from Western University, Joy is a visual artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her practice primarily focuses on creating vibrant, eclectic paintings and introspective installations.

 

Her inspiration often stems from the evolving ways we perceive the world throughout different phases of our lives, delving into themes of memory and nostalgia drawn from personal experience. She approaches her work with an intentional childlike element to it, incorporating paint markers and chaotic disproportioned compositions. Through this seemingly playful lens, Joy questions societal constructs, exploring what is inherent human nature and what is conditioned.​ Additionally, select pieces also explore themes related to wealth disparity, religion, technology, and the consequences of a system built to function in favour of those in power and the materialistic society that we indulge in.

Joy aims for her art to offer moments of peace and reflection, encouraging viewers to reconnect with their inner child amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life.
